Microsoft has made available for download the Windows SteadyState for the 32-bit editions of Windows XP and Windows Vista. SteadyState is a Windows management tool designed for scenarios in which access to machines is completely unrestricted. The evolution of the Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit for Windows XP, Windows SteadyState has been designed for the specific purpose of managing shared computers, safeguarding system resourced against changes made by untrusted users, and making irrelevant unwanted software installations.
“Windows SteadyState includes many new features and enhanced capabilities. Windows SteadyState is not simply a redesign of the Shared Computer Toolkit; we listened to you, our customers, to better understand how we could provide a solution that could really help you manage and maintain your shared computer environments”, Microsoft revealed.
SteadyState indeed comes with an overhauled installation and a new redesigned graphical user interface tailored on the Windows Aero in Vista. Still, the redesign does highlight the tasks and options of the tool streamlining access for the end users. At the same time, the Redmond company also simplified the settings associated with introducing restrictions to user accounts on a certain operating system and those related to handling updates.
On top of the management capabilities included in SteadyState Microsoft has also integrated the Windows Genuine Advantage anti-piracy mechanism. The company stressed the need to ensure that Windows machines with SteadyState have access to official downloads and the updates restricted by WGA validation. On top of this, SteadyState features Windows Disk Protection which makes all changes to the platform temporary.
“Help protect the Windows partition, which contains the Windows operating system and other programs, from being modified without administrator approval. Windows Disk Protection helps protect the Windows operating system and all files on the computer from permanent change. Any changes made by shared users when they are logged on to the computer are removed when the computer is restarted. Windows SteadyState allows you to set Windows Disk Protection to remove all changes upon restart, to remove changes at a certain date and time, or to not remove changes at all”, Microsoft added.
Windows SteadyState is available for download here.

One of our readers Vimal reported us a problem saying: “windows not genuine , this comes when I start my Windows XP“.
This is one of the most common problem which is faced by lot of windows users these days as they don’t have the legit copy of windows XP.
This message as shown in the image above appears every time the user logged in windows, with a timer of some seconds before the Resolve Later button got enabled, all this delayed the entire windows logon process.
Let’s see how can we resolve this issue
The most simplest way now a days is by using Remove WGA Notification tool, which runs silently and check it the WGA notification tool is already active on your system.
What is Remove WGA ?
A small utility that enables you to remove the Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications tool, which is calling home and connect to MS servers every time you boot.
Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications is very much different than Windows Genuine Advantage Validation.
NOTE: Remove WGA will only removes the notification part, phoning home, and does not touch the Validation part.

Now Microsoft will add Genuine Advantage for office which would have a "nag" like in
Windows Vista. But for now the Microsoft is launching this is Chile,Italy,Spain and Turkey.
So what I have to face if my Microsoft Office is not Genuine?
With the OGA validation process that was introduced the non-Genuine user was not only able to download office template or other downloads. But with this new WGA for office there would be a icon on the ribbon stating that its non-Genuine.Don`t worry there is MORE!
The Non-Genuine users will also receive a pop-up dialog box for first time they open an office application and again 2 hours later for 30 days about their software being not genuine and information on getting a Genuine Copy. Also the Office application will be marked with the visual remainder that the copy is not Genuine.
Lets see when Office WGA is implemented in all countries.
I don't want to be nagged , what should I do?
Purchase a Genuine Microsoft Office..
Any Workaround this WGA?
There is nothing till now surfaced on the internet to Crack the WGA , but its just a matter of time before someone releases a hack.

Microsoft has announced an update which will detect two cracks commonly used to activate pirated copies of the operating system. One of the cracks refered to as
Grace Timer, extended Vista's activation grace period, upto 2099. The other called as
OEM BIOS, modified system files and the PC's BIOS to mimic the product activation done by computer-makers at the factory. If the sniffer detects an activation hack, it will pop up a warning that includes a link to the removal tool. Although
SP1 will block these two cracks, "
it's important to note that this update does not disable the exploits it finds," says Alex Kochis "
It simply alerts customers that exploits exist." However, MS will release a separate crack-removal tool at the same time that it rolls out the detection update.
Update for Windows Vista (KB940510)
Download size: 3.0 MB
You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.
Update type: Important
Install this update to enable Windows Vista to detect software that bypasses product activation and interferes with normal Windows operation.
More information:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=99255Help and Support:
http://support.microsoft.comIts actually does turn out to be a main update, and no hidden installation.I think even if you try to cancel/hide the update it does get installed automatically.I hope pirates do not find a way, but if they do, that would be no surprise!
What happens after downloading the update (KB940510)?
It will only detects OEM BIOS and Grace Timer exploits and remove them.
When the update will be installed, no functionality of the system will be affected. If it detects and exploits you will be provided a link that would describes how you can remove the exploits. Once the exploits are removed you will be asked to activate your Windows copy with a valid product key. If you don’t want to remove the exploit then Windows may disable the exploits and then ask you activate Windows using a valid product key (surely there would be a nag screen). This update has no uninstaller.
Check out these screen shots to know how it works:

Update : I personally think the system restore should work, just create a restore point just before installing the update. Then see if it works...Please let me know through the comments...Also check activation status too...
I think the hackers will be able to make
Windows Vista a freeware again....

Microsoft is making images for Vista available with SP1 already included, which will be useful since there is no easy way to ’slip-stream’ it as we previously have with XP.

Though it’s important to know about the programs that aren’t working, they won’t affect the installed base to any measurable degree. The press will, however, try to blow it into something bigger than it is, as ZDnet does in this article.
