XP has required almost twice as many updates as Vista since Vista’s release, with Vista averaging only 1.5 per month.

While Microsoft is still hammering away at Internet Explore 8 in order to produce the second Beta, currently planned for August 2008, Mozilla is gearing up to release the first update to Firefox 3.0. The successor of Firefox 2.0 was released to the general public on June 17, 2008, and climbed to a record 8 million downloads in just the first day. Firefox 3.0.1 is the first security and stability update for Firefox 3.0, and Mozilla is targeting July 16 for the release date. Firefox 3.0.1 code freeze status was available at the end of June, and the Beta versions of the first update to version 3.0 are already live and up for grabs.
“Candidate builds of Firefox 3.0.1 are now available for testing. You can get the builds here. If you have previously downloaded a beta version of Firefox 3.0 or have manually set your copy to be using the ‘beta’ release channel for updates, you can update yourself to Firefox 3.0.1 by selecting ‘Help > Check for Updates’,” revealed Samuel Sidler, Quality Assurance Engineer at Mozilla.
But Firefox 3.0.1 is not the only version of the open source browser under development. Mozilla is also building Firefox 2.0.0.16, one of the last security and stability updates for Firefox 2.0 which will not live to see 2009. At this point in time, Mozilla plans to kill support for Firefox 2.0 in mid-December 2008, just half a year after the launch of Firefox 3.0. But by that time, Firefox 3.0 could have already all but wiped out its predecessor since Mozilla is considering version 3.0.1 as a candidate for a major update roll out of its open source browser.
“Candidate builds of Firefox 2.0.0.16 are now available for testing. You can get the builds here. If you have previously downloaded a beta version of Firefox 2.0.0.x or have manually set your copy to be using the ‘beta’ release channel for updates, you can update yourself to Firefox 2.0.0.16 by selecting ‘Help > Check for Updates’,” Sidler added.

Applying the patches and service packs issues by Microsoft Operating Systems are usually seen to be solutions to improve and safeguard Windows users but apparently there are issues surrounding the type of processor that is in use. If you use an Intel based processors, chances are you will not be having much trouble installing and rebooting your system. The real problem really exists when AMD processors are being used and much of this lies in the configuration.
Apparently, to be able to adhere towards the proper specifications, some tweaks have to be done to the main processor of AMD based units to accept the new add-ons and patches offered periodically. Normally, you will have issue after applying the updated patches and this becomes a cause for consideration on whether people should install the service packs or not.
Ideally, installing these patches is a good way to be able to safeguard your computer from threats around the web. But in some cases like this AMD issue, it would be best to be open to proper installation and compatibility issues. In short, as a user you should be able to research and find proper troubleshooting tips so that you can avoid messing up your current system rather than improving it.
There are several issues that can cause a Windows XP computer to not reboot properly after installing Service Pack 3. Most of them affect relatively specific configurations, and most appear to have relatively simple work-arounds. Please: do not do anything rash. I have seen a lot of reports of people who reformat and reinstall when they run into this problem, losing all their data in the process.

As previously announced, Vista got 5 security updates yesterday. Three of them were ‘Critical’, while the other two were ‘Moderate’. In addition to those security updates, two non-security updates were released. One was for Media Center, the other for CEIP (Windows Vista Customer Experience Improvement Program).
Here are more details on the updates:

Vista hasn’t escaped the need for security updates in the month of June. All together, five updates affect Windows Vista; three critical, and two moderate. All updates affect both 32 and 64-bit systems, and it doesn’t matter if you have SP1 installed or not.
The three critical updates affect Bluetooth, Internet Explorer and DirectX, and are all “Remote Code Execution” vulnerabilities. One moderate update is a potential denial of services vulnerability using PGM (Pragmatic General Multicast protocol). The other is a “Kill Bit”, presumably to disable either a Microsoft or a third-party feature that has security implications.
Two other updates, one for WINS, the other for Active Directory, are required for other versions of Windows, but not for Windows Vista.
