SOLUTION: Vista Windows Explorer menu bar won’t go away!!!!

PROBLEM:

I cannot get the menu bar to go away in file explorer. The setting is
unchecked under organize->layout.
Also in folder options, always show menu disappeared.

SOLUTION:

This problem occurs when some other toolbar is installed, and its either badly written or you uninstall it and it leaves “residue” behind.

Follow these steps:

1. Close all explorer windows and IE browser

2. Start the registry editor by going to START and in the search box write REGEDIT and press ENTER, or look for the regedit.exe icon on the top of the menu (where the search results show)

2. backup the following key in your registry, by selecting this location and going FILE> EXPORT, give a name and save it.

HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\

3. under the same registry key there will be a sub-keys
'ShellBrowser' . Look for
'ITBar7Layout' and delete this key.

4. Close regedit and open an explorer window and click organize,
layout, menubar.
