HOWTO install Live Messenger on a 64 bit (x64) OS, xp or vista.
The problem is that the new live installer is not compatible with the x64 platform, however if you download the MSI installer for messenger 8.5 from the link below you will be able to install messenger directly without using the live installer

choose one of the mirrors.
Download the MSI installer and run it.
Live messenger will not launch automatically after the install.
You will have to go and find the link in the start menu for windows live > live messenger
and launch it from there.
