How to get more seeds or make uTorrent faster ?
Question:
How to get more seeds or make uTorrent faster ?
I'm downloading with torrent from isohunt . it was written 600 seeds and 100 leachers however when i was downloading its 4 seed and 40 peers the downloading speed is 1.5 and if it will stay like this it will take 20 weeks to be downloaded . how can i get seeds or make utorrent faster ??
ANSWER:
Hello, Read the following 3 possibilities
1) Your ISP may be doing some TRAFFIC SHAPING meaning that they are cutting the ports of utorrent because they don't want people to suck up bandwidth
2) On the bottom status bar of utorrent you have yellow triangle (as opposed to a round green with a checkmark) this means utorrent is not forwarded properly through your router.
Go to www.portforward.com to learn how to open ports in your router
3) there is a built in problem with XP and Vista, that limits the total number of half open connections to around 8 or 10. This was done to prevent spreading of trojans.. however with programs that need to connect many times to various locations this makes them go very slow.
There is a patch for the TCPIP of XP, that will let you increase the number of half open connections. I have not found one yet for Vista though.
If you go to the event manager (control panel > administration tools) and see there you most possibly will have a list of warnings that the tcpip has reached its limit ... Like this:
EventID 4226: TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts
So make a restore point and download the patch BUT BE WARNED THIS IS NOT SUPPORTED BY MICROSOFT!
Download it here:
http://www.lvllord.de/?url=tools
Then restart and go to utorrent and go to OPTIONS > PREFERENCES > select BANDWIDTH from the left list of items and then increase the numbers (that I have with red arrows in this screenshot) You can try 300 and 100 for starters… then if things are stable you might increase it even more…
